What Is a Build in Path of Exile 2?

A build in Path of Exile 2 is the whole plan behind one character: the class, one of its ascendancies, a main skill with the supports it scales with, a route through the passive tree and gear that carries those numbers. The game has 8 classes and 22 ascendancies, plus the Abyssal Lich, an alternate ascendancy a Lich unlocks by killing Vessel of Kulemak at full power. Once chosen, an ascendancy cannot be switched.

Builds rarely fail as a whole. They fail on one missing layer: defences that fold at the first hard map boss, a skill gem without its supports, or gear bought without knowing which stat matters. A PoE 2 build boost closes those layers on your character instead of in a planner.

Class Card, Custom Build or League Starter?

Take a class card when one of its presets is the setup you want. Every class card also has a Specific Build field, so a Warbringer, a Chronomancer or an Infernalist can be ordered there even without a preset of its own. Custom Build is for ideas no preset list covers: you describe the skill, the ascendancy and how you want it to play, and the booster builds exactly that.

League Starter Builds solve a different problem. At the start of a fresh economy nobody has currency, so the starter is chosen to clear well on cheap first gear. An Extra starter package and an Upgraded version make it stronger. If your character is still in the campaign, a power leveling order gets it to the level a build needs first.

Build Power, Level Box and the Build Check

Class cards and Custom Build share one main setting, Build Power: Early-game, Mid-game, End-game or Uber. Each step means more gear and a stronger character, and each step costs more. The level box takes leveling off the price when your character has already reached 70, 80 or 90, so you never pay for levels you own.

Already playing a build that stalls? Order a Build Check before you spend more currency. You get a ranked list of changes for your tree, gems and items in the order chat. For a single item that holds the setup back, gear crafting makes a rare with the modifiers you list.

When Your Build Boost Starts and How Long It Takes

Class cards start within about 30 minutes; League Starter Builds, Custom Build and Build Check get a booster in about 15 minutes. A finished build takes about 12 hours, a review about 1 hour. The current challenge league is Forbidden Rites, which runs until the 1.0 release on December 11, 2026. After that the cards move to the new league, and your build is played in the league you select in the calculator.
