What Are Rare Items in Path of Exile 2?

Most gear you wear in Path of Exile 2 is rare: a base item with random modifiers that you shape with currency. An Exalted Orb adds a modifier, a Divine Orb rerolls the values of the ones already there, and Essences, Omens and Catalysts steer the result. Every orb is a roll of the dice, so a strong rare usually costs many attempts before the last modifier lands.

The Mirror of Kalandra is the end point of that system. It creates an exact copy of a non-unique equipment item, and the mirrored copy can never be modified again. That is how one finished rare can end up on more than one character.

Leveling Gear, a Custom Craft or a Mirrored Copy?

Pick by the stage your character is in. A fresh character with 4 Acts and 3 Interludes ahead needs leveling gear: enough damage and defence to move through the campaign without stopping to trade. The package matches one of 9 class options, and an extra support pack can join the same trade.

On the Atlas the question changes. If you know which modifiers your build needs on a slot, Gear Crafting makes that item for you: you agree the target mods in the order chat, and the booster crafts until the item matches. If you want the strongest possible piece and play Standard, the Mirror Service gives you a copy of an item that already exists, from Pain Twirl to Storm Spell. For uniques with fixed effects, look at the PoE 2 unique items section instead.

Leagues and Options for Each Item Order

Leveling gear and crafting follow the league list in their calculator, Softcore or Hardcore where listed. Leveling Gear in Forbidden Rites can also include the 4th Ascension Trial for all 8 Ascendancy points. Gear Crafting runs in five league options. The Mirror Service works only in Standard Softcore: Standard is the permanent league, so a mirrored piece bought there stays with your character for good. Express costs extra on the cards that offer it and moves your order to the front of the queue. If you prefer to craft yourself, Exalted Orbs are the currency most crafts start with.

When Your Item Order Starts

Crafting starts within about 15 minutes and takes about 15 minutes per craft. Leveling gear is traded in about 15 minutes, and a mirrored rare in about 1 to 3 hours, with the start confirmed in the order chat. The current challenge league is Forbidden Rites until the 1.0 release on December 11, 2026; after that, items go to the league you select in the calculator.
