What Is Leveling in Path of Exile 2?

Leveling in Path of Exile 2 has two layers. The first is character level, from 1 to the cap of 100. The campaign of 4 Acts and 3 Interludes carries a character to about level 65, and every level after that comes from Waystone maps on the Atlas. The second layer is the Atlas itself: its passive tree and, since patch 0.5.0, the Atlas Masters Doryani, Hilda and Jado, whose quests unlock extra map passives.

A strong character needs both. High level gives passive points and room for better gear, while Atlas progress decides how rewarding each map is. This section sells each part on its own card.

Choose by Stage: Story or Endgame

If your character has not reached the Atlas, the choice is between the whole story and single fights. The campaign card plays every act and Interlude, or starts from the last act you finished, and can add the 4th Trial for all 8 ascendancy points. The boss card fits a player who enjoys the story but keeps dying to one encounter; the kill counts for your quest, and you continue from there.

Once maps are open, levels and Atlas progress become separate goals. Atlas points are bought per sector, with the main Maps tree and each mechanic tree on its own slider. Atlas Masters are a different system on top of that, so a full Atlas tree does not unlock any Master. Players who also need ascendancy points after the story find the trials in the ascendancy section.

Choose by Goal: a Number, a Fight or a Fresh Start

  • A target level: power leveling. Level 90 is where most players stop and map on their own; level 100 takes far longer, about 18 days from level 1.
  • One wall in the story: campaign bosses, priced per kill inside one act or the Interludes.
  • A better Atlas: Atlas points first, then the Master whose mission matches the content you farm.
  • Day one of a league: league start leveling, played on a newly created character while the economy is still empty.

Several cards often follow each other on one character: story, then levels, then Atlas. Each one is a separate order with its own calculator.

Leagues and Play Modes

Power leveling, the campaign and the boss card run in Forbidden Rites Softcore, Runes of Aldur Softcore or Hardcore, and Standard Softcore or Hardcore. Atlas points and Atlas Masters cover Forbidden Rites Softcore and both Runes of Aldur variants. League start leveling is a Forbidden Rites Softcore card today. On five of the six cards you choose Self Play, Piloted or Remote Control, and Express adds priority where the calculator shows it.

When Your Leveling Order Starts

Power leveling, the campaign, Atlas points and Atlas Masters start within about 15 minutes; story boss kills usually begin within minutes. For Atlas orders and league start runs, the booster confirms the time in the order chat.

Both current leagues stay open until the 1.0 release on December 11, 2026. After that the cards move to the new league, and orders are played in the current league selected in the calculator. Other parts of the game are on the main Path of Exile 2 boosting page.
