The Only 40-Player Raid of the First Tier

WoW Forever Onyxia is the one returning encounter on the roadmap and the one instance that asks for forty characters; the developers have said raids of that size will keep appearing, "just not every tier".

Its December 9 date comes from a slide of the roadmap presented on stage, not from a news post, so treat it as announced but movable. Whether the fight itself was touched is something Blizzard keeps quiet about, and this page assumes nothing about phases or tuning. Like all Forever raiding, the Classic Plus Onyxia raid exists in exactly one difficulty, and forty is a hard number.

Forty Calendars, One Evening: The Real Obstacle

Ask anyone who has led a forty-person raid what goes wrong, and the dragon comes second. First comes attendance. Forty capped characters five weeks after launch, all Horde or all Alliance, all from one ruleset, free at an identical hour, with enough tanks and healers among them. Guilds that can field that in early December will be few, and their spots go to members.

Attunement: Unknown for Now

Whether the lair needs an attunement in Forever is an open question. Blizzard has announced neither a questline nor a key. The calculator carries an attunement add-on for one reason: if an attunement stays in the game, it can be added to the same order and finished before raid night. If Blizzard drops the requirement, the add-on has nothing to apply to and is not needed.

Loot in a Group of Forty

GDKP was ruled out by the development team, so bidding is off the table. Choose Group Loot and you dice against each raider able to wear that item, which among forty can mean a crowd. Choose Full Priority and whatever suits your class and specialization is handed over without dice. What the dragon decides to drop on a given night stays outside anyone's control.

Placing the Order Before December 9

• Flip the two switches as needed and pay.
• Vetted boosters get to see the job, and one claims it. Back out earlier and your money returns whole.
• A chat for this purchase opens between you, that booster and support; the evening is fixed there.
• Once the dragon is down, a proof upload follows.
• Seventy-two hours (72) are yours to approve or object; silence counts as approval.

The WoW Forever Onyxia's Lair boost is sold today and begins with the lair's opening. A slipped date leaves a WoW Forever Onyxia Raid Boost intact; it just idles. Kill time goes unquoted, since this version of the encounter has been fought by no one.
