What Is The Coiled Altar in WoW?
The Coiled Altar is the seventh encounter of The Venomous Abyss, the Season 2 raid on the Coiled Isle, and the boss you meet right before Ula'tek. Blizzard splits the raid's loot into four item level tiers, and the altar belongs to the Final tier together with Ula'tek. Only these two bosses drop the top item level of every difficulty.
No Tier 36 token drops here. Slot tokens come from bosses two to six, and the omni-token Slumbering Coil Curio from Ula'tek, so players visit the altar for weapons, trinkets and armor at the top of their track.
Coiled Altar Boost Loot by Difficulty
| Difficulty | Item level from this boss | Loot option in the calculator |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 302 (Champion) | Group loot |
| Heroic | 315 (Hero) | Group loot |
| Mythic | 344 (Myth 9) | Vault Run |
On Mythic, loot and vault rewards from the last two bosses are set at the Myth 9 equivalent, 344, the highest raid value this season. The Mythic option of this card is a Vault Run: the kill is credited to the raid row of your Great Vault.
Adding Ula'tek to the Carry
On Normal and Heroic the Ula'tek kill is an add-on. Tick it and the group walks straight to the final boss, so one order covers both Final-tier encounters plus a roll at the omni-token. Players who want both of them with loot steered their way usually pick the last two bosses service, and the serpent alone is sold as an Ula'tek kill.
Start Time and Duration of a Coiled Altar Boost
Heroic and Mythic kills go out with our raid schedule. When no scheduled run fits your evening, the raid is arranged individually. A Normal or Heroic raid takes about 1 hour and a Mythic one 2–3 hours; one boss fits well inside that window. Self Play needs no gear and no raid experience.
To combine the altar with other encounters, build your own list with single boss kills. Full clears, feats and bundles are on the Venomous Abyss boost page, where you can buy the rest of the raid.
Frequently asked questions
Is The Coiled Altar the last boss of the Venomous Abyss?
No, it is the seventh of eight. Ula'tek follows and ends the raid, but both bosses share the Final loot tier.
When can you start?
Heroic and Mythic kills join the next scheduled raid. If none fits your time, we arrange a run for you and confirm the time in the order chat.
How long does it take?
A Normal or Heroic raid lasts about 1 hour, a Mythic raid 2–3 hours. A single kill of the altar takes less.
Do I get items on Mythic?
The Mythic option is a Vault Run, so the kill counts toward the raid row of your Great Vault at the Myth 9 level. Items during the fight come with the Normal and Heroic options, which use Group loot.
