WoW Forever mounts start with the riding lesson at level 40 and the epic lesson at level 60, and both lessons come with a mount. Beyond those, the game has a short list of special mounts: two class mounts, several reputation mounts, one very rare dungeon drop and the Spectral Bear at the end of the Legacy track. There is no flying anywhere in Forever, so ground speed is what you are really collecting.

Speed is settled at 40 and 60. Every other mount is really a choice of grind: quests for the class mounts, reputation for the Frostsaber, Alterac Valley and the Pack Kodo, pure luck for the Deathcharger, and alts for the Spectral Bear. Already love battlegrounds or crafting? Then half the work is done before you even aim for a mount. Here's every option, what it really costs you, and when it opens once Forever goes live on November 4, 2026.

  • Level 40: first riding lesson, 60 % ground speed, mount included in the lesson.
  • Level 60: epic riding at 100 % ground speed, and yes, another mount in the box.
  • Class mounts: Paladins quest for one at 60, Warlocks for two (40 and 60).
  • Reputation mounts: Winterspring Frostsaber (Alliance), the two Alterac Valley mounts, and the Pack Kodo bought with Merchant's Favor.
  • Rare drop: Rivendare's Deathcharger from the last boss of Stratholme.
  • Account reward: Reins of the Spectral Bear at 55 Legacy Points.
  • Shop: Cerulean Prideclaw comes with the Heroic Pack.
  • No flying at launch or on the announced roadmap.

When Can You Ride in WoW Forever?

The WoW Forever riding level is 40 for the first lesson and 60 for epic riding. Blizzard moved the cost of the mount into the training itself: you pay the riding instructor and leave with both the skill and a mount, so there is no second purchase at a vendor.

Riding4060 %Skill plus a regular racial mount
Epic riding60100 %Skill plus an epic racial mount

The level 40 lesson is the biggest quality-of-life jump while leveling: quest hubs in the mid-40s sit far apart, and walking between them eats a large share of a session. Most players save their gold through their 30s for exactly this moment. If you would rather skip the gold part, our mount unlock boost learns either tier on your character.

Epic riding at 60 is the second big expense, and almost every mount further down this list needs it before you can ride: they are epic mounts, so a character without the level 60 lesson can own them but not use them.

Is There Flying in WoW Forever?

No. Forever is built around the original world plus four new zones, and flying is not part of it, neither at launch nor in the spring and summer 2027 roadmap. That changes how you value mounts: an epic ground mount is the fastest travel you will have, and every special mount below is, in practice, a different look at the same top speed.

Which Classes Get Their Own Mount in WoW Forever?

Paladins and Warlocks. Both earn mounts through class quests instead of only buying riding, and Warlocks get two of them, one at 40 and one at 60. Of all WoW Forever mounts, these are the only ones tied to a class, and nobody else can ride them.

Warlock: Felsteed and Dreadsteed

Warlocks get the Felsteed at level 40 from a short quest given by their class trainer. It does the job of the first riding tier and needs no long preparation.

The Dreadsteed is a different story. It is the Warlock's epic class mount and the reward at the end of a long level 60 quest chain. You run all over Azeroth for it. The materials are pricey, some steps are dungeons you can't solo, and the last one is a summoning ritual in Dire Maul with a whole group standing around you. Don't start it on day one at 60. Start it when your guild has a free evening.

Paladin: the Charger

Paladins earn their epic class mount through a quest at level 60. Alliance Paladins ride the Charger, and Forsaken Paladins on the Horde side get their own skeletal version of it. Like the Dreadsteed, it is a mount you show off rather than one you need: epic riding from the instructor gives the same speed.

Reputation Mounts: Frostsaber, Alterac Valley and Pack Kodo

Reputation mounts never depend on luck. You know the target from the start, and every turn-in or match moves you closer. What they cost is time. The standard reputation bar from Neutral to Exalted is 42,000 points (3,000, 6,000, 12,000 and 21,000 for the four ranks), and the last rank alone is half of it.

Winterspring Frostsaber

The Frostsaber is the classic Alliance status mount. The Wintersaber Trainers sell it only to Exalted players, and their reputation comes from a small set of repeatable quests in Winterspring that you run again and again. There is no faster route and no dungeon that helps. One more catch: Alliance races other than Night Elves also need Exalted with Darnassus before they can ride a saber.

Alterac Valley mounts

Alterac Valley is the large battleground in the mountains north of Hillsbrad. Alliance fights for the Stormpike Guard. Hit Exalted there and you can buy the Stormpike Battle Charger, a big war ram. Horde fights for the Frostwolf Clan, and their prize is the Frostwolf Howler, a wolf. You gain the reputation just by playing matches. Marks of Honor help too: 3 for a win, 1 for a loss, and you can swap them for reputation. Queue AV for honor anyway? Then the mount pretty much comes on its own.

Pack Kodo

The Pack Kodo is new in Forever and works differently: you buy it with 6,000 Merchant's Favor, the currency of the two new trading companies. The Azeroth Commerce Authority runs a camp at Three Corners in Redridge for the Alliance, and Durotar Supply and Logistics sits outside the Crossroads in the Barrens for the Horde. You loot supply crates in the world, fill them and hand them in for 5, 10 or 20 Favor each. It is the most expensive item on the companies' list, and both factions can earn it. Our Pack Kodo carry runs the crate loop and buys the mount on your character.

Rare Drops: Rivendare's Deathcharger

Rivendare's Deathcharger is the WoW Forever rare mount most players will never see on their own. It drops as Deathcharger's Reins from Baron Rivendare, the final boss of Stratholme, and only rarely. Stratholme is level 60 content (entry from level 48, best at 58–60), and a good group clears it without trouble. The problem is repetition: every kill is a single roll, and the reins can stay away for a very long time.

Any race and faction can ride it once it drops. If you want to farm it, make the runs worth it anyway: Stratholme also drops pre-raid gear and Argent Dawn reputation. If you would rather not count kills, our Rivendare's Deathcharger farm keeps running Stratholme on your character until the reins drop.

How Do You Get the Spectral Bear in WoW Forever?

You reach 55 Legacy Points on your account. The Reins of the Spectral Bear are the top reward of the Legacy system, the account-wide progression that runs next to your characters, and the hardest of the WoW Forever mounts to plan for.

Every Legacy challenge pays 1 point; the track hands out a Replica Ironforge Air Rifle at 15 points, a Spectral Bear Cub at 25, a Spectral Bear Tabard at 40 and the bear at 55. With 65 points available at launch, the WoW Forever Spectral Bear asks for almost everything the game offers.

Challenge groupPointsWhat it takes
Classes27All 9 classes to levels 25, 45 and 60
Crafting professions18Six crafting professions to 150, 225 and 300
PvP12Ranks, battleground reputations at Exalted, season tasks
Dungeons3Final bosses of the 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 dungeons
Raids3Onyxia, Hyjal Summit, The Barrow Deeps (from December 9)
Adventure2Full world map, Lord Valthalak questline

The table explains why no single main character gets there: 27 points come from leveling every class. Legacy opens once your first character reaches level 25, and points earned on Normal, PvP and Roleplaying never move into Hardcore. Our WoW Forever Legacy system guide covers perks and point spending in detail.

Plan the bear early if you enjoy alts: every class you level for fun already moves the counter. If you want the reward without leveling nine classes yourself, the Spectral Bear mount boost covers the whole route.

Shop Mount: Cerulean Prideclaw

You get the Cerulean Prideclaw by buying the Heroic Pack, the same pack that unlocks the Skyborne race. No quest, no grind. Either you bought the pack or you didn't.

What You Will Not Find at Launch

Mounts from the original raids are not in reach, because Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Zul'Gurub and Ahn'Qiraj are not open in Forever. The three raids that open on December 9 are The Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair. Arenas are not announced either, so there are no arena or Gladiator mounts to chase for now.

A Mount Timeline for the First Months

Nobody chases every mount in week one. Roughly, this is when each of them starts to make sense after the November 4 launch:

  1. Launch weeks: leveling to 40 and the first riding lesson. Warlocks pick up the Felsteed at the same level. Supply crates for Merchant's Favor start dropping while you quest, so a Pack Kodo plan can begin early.
  2. First level 60 weeks: epic riding, then the Paladin and Warlock class quests. This is also when Stratholme runs for the Deathcharger and the Wintersaber grind start to make sense.
  3. Once Alterac Valley is live: each match pushes you towards the ram or the wolf. Those same matches also count for PvP ranks and Legacy points.
  4. From December 9: raids open, which adds the last 3 raid challenges to the Legacy total behind the Spectral Bear.

Hardcore arrives in December as its own ruleset. Its Legacy points can be used on other rulesets, but nothing earned on Normal, PvP or Roleplaying flows back into Hardcore, so a Hardcore Spectral Bear starts from zero.

Which WoW Forever Mounts Should You Plan First?

Riding first, then your class mount, then whichever grind you already enjoy. The table sorts all WoW Forever mounts by effort and luck, so you can see where your play time goes furthest and which mount fits the way you already like to play.

Most people should go riding at 40, epic at 60, then the class mount if they have one. After that, pick by what you already enjoy. Battleground players get the Alterac Valley mount almost for free along the way, crafters drift towards the Pack Kodo, and alt lovers end up close to the Spectral Bear without trying.

wow forever mounts FAQ

What level can you get a mount in WoW Forever?

At 40. You pay the riding trainer, learn the skill and get a mount thrown in, good for 60 % speed. At 60 you go back for epic riding, 100 % speed, and that lesson hands you a faster mount as well. No separate trip to a vendor in either case.

Is there flying in WoW Forever?

No flying, sorry. It isn't there at launch and it isn't on the 2027 roadmap Blizzard has shown either. Epic riding at 60 is the top speed you'll ever have, which means a rare mount buys you bragging rights and a nicer look, never a faster trip.

How do you get the Spectral Bear in WoW Forever?

Your account needs 55 Legacy Points. Challenges pay one point each, and they're spread over classes, crafting, dungeons, raids, PvP and exploring. Most points come from leveling all nine classes and maxing six crafting professions, so if you hate alts, this bear will hurt.

How much Merchant's Favor does the Pack Kodo cost?

It costs 6,000 Merchant's Favor. Alliance players hand crates to the Azeroth Commerce Authority, Horde players to Durotar Supply and Logistics. A crate pays 5, 10 or 20 Favor, depending on the kind. You'll find them lying around while questing anyway, so a few hundred trips later the kodo is yours.

Is the Winterspring Frostsaber Alliance only?

Yes, it is an Alliance mount sold by the Wintersaber Trainers in Winterspring. The closest Horde goal is the Frostwolf Howler, earned at Exalted with the Frostwolf Clan in Alterac Valley. Both factions can also work towards the Pack Kodo and the Spectral Bear.

Which WoW Forever mount is the rarest?

That's Rivendare's Deathcharger. Baron Rivendare, the last boss of Stratholme, drops its reins once in a long while. Each kill is one roll and there's no trick to improve it. A friend of yours may get it on run three while you're still clearing Stratholme months later.
