Here's the deal. The game goes live Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 2026 (3 p.m. Pacific), and pack owners can already build characters and claim names: the early window opened October 27 and stays open through November 3. So you've got a few days left for names and rulesets, then a few evenings to figure out what you'll actually do once you log in. Our WoW Forever launch checklist walks through both halves.

None of it is rocket science. And yet every launch we watch somebody lose the name they've used since 2005, or roll on PvP while their mates went Normal, or stand at a trainer for twenty minutes arguing with themselves about Herbalism. Silly, avoidable stuff. Go through the list once and launch night is just you playing.

  • Name reservation: open now, until November 3, up to three characters across all rulesets.
  • Who gets to reserve: anyone who pre-bought the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection.
  • Go-live: 3 p.m. Pacific on November 4 (one global moment, so it's already the 5th in Europe).
  • Cost to play: your usual sub or Game Time covers it.
  • Forget the server list: you choose EU or US, then Normal, PvP, Roleplaying or the freshly added Roleplay-PvP.
  • Names: first name plus surname, and the pair has to be free in your whole region.
  • Raids: December 9. Hardcore comes later, in the winter window.

What Is Early Name Reservation in WoW Forever?

Early Name Reservation is the pre-launch window, open since October 27 and running until November 3, in which eligible accounts create up to three characters and keep their names. It comes with the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection, and only on the account the pack was bought for.

The three slots are counted across all rulesets together, not per ruleset. Blizzard's own example: two PvP characters leave room for exactly one Normal or Roleplaying character. And it's a race: whoever grabs a name first keeps it, Blizzard won't hold one for you.

The window does not open at the same minute everywhere. These are Blizzard's announced start times:

  • North America gets the first shot, Tuesday the 27th at 1 in the afternoon, Pacific daylight time.
  • Europe follows the same evening, 6 p.m. Central European Time.
  • Korea and Taiwan open on Wednesday morning, the 28th, at 7 o'clock local time.

No pack? You lose nothing on November 4 except the head start on names. Everybody else creates characters the moment the game goes live.

How Do Names Work in WoW Forever?

Three character pedestals in a dark hall, with a human adventurer highlighted in blue.

You type two names now, a first name and something like a family name. Only the whole combo has to be free, and "free" means across your entire region, not one server. Your first name can repeat across players as long as the complete combination is different from everyone else's.

That changes the old launch-night panic. Back in Classic, a short popular name was gone the second someone else on your server typed it. Here the pool is a whole region, which sounds worse, but the second name gives you thousands of free combinations. "Kael" may be taken a hundred times over; "Kael Ashwhisper" probably isn't.

Three details worth knowing before you type anything:

  • The name filter reads both parts together. Chopping a filtered word in half across both boxes? Nice try, the filter catches it.
  • Don't like seeing the surname over your head? Escape, Options, Nameplates, untick "My Secondary Name". It still shows in chat.
  • A random name generator is built in, useful when your first three ideas are taken.

Our advice: write down two or three backup pairs before you log in, so you aren't inventing them while the good names disappear.

Which Ruleset Should You Pick for Launch?

Whichever one your friends or guild are on, full stop. Groups don't cross rulesets in WoW Forever, so a buddy on Roleplaying can't join your PvP dungeon run, ever. And your character is stuck where you made it; switching later means rolling a brand-new one from level 1 over there.

On launch you have Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and, added on October 22, a Roleplay-PvP ruleset. Hardcore follows after launch. One trap on PvP: once an account makes an Alliance character there, it can't make a Horde one, and the reverse is true as well. So settle the Horde-or-Alliance argument in your Discord first, then reserve.

There's a catch Blizzard flagged too: if one side of the PvP ruleset gets way more popular, character creation for that side can be frozen for a bit, the way it was in Season of Discovery. Going with the crowded faction? Then reserve early and dodge the lock.

WoW Forever Launch Time in Your Region

3:00 p.m. PST on November 4, 2026. That's it, one time for the planet, which means Europeans and Asian players technically get in on the 5th.

US clocks go back on November 1, which is why the launch is quoted in PST while the reservation start used PDT. We converted the launch for the main time zones:

  • Los Angeles, Vancouver and the rest of the West Coast: mid-afternoon Wednesday, 3 o'clock.
  • New York or Toronto: 6 in the evening, right after dinner.
  • London and Dublin: 11 at night, still Wednesday.
  • Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Warsaw: bang on midnight, so Thursday the 5th has started.
  • Kyiv, Helsinki, Athens: 1 a.m. Thursday.
  • Seoul: 8 on Thursday morning.
  • Sydney: 10 a.m. Thursday.

Midnight on a Wednesday for most of Europe. Ouch. If your boss is nice, book Thursday morning off; if not, grab an hour at launch for names and the first quests, then go properly the next evening.

Your Pre-Launch Checklist, Step by Step

Most of this takes five minutes per item. The point is to do it before November 4, not during the first queue.

  1. Check your subscription or Game Time. Forever needs no separate box. There is no WoW Token in Forever, so sort payment out on your Battle.net account now.
  2. Install and patch the client. Updates on launch day are slow when everyone downloads at once.
  3. Agree on region and ruleset with your group. EU and US are separate, and rulesets never mix in groups.
  4. Fix faction for PvP. One faction per account on that ruleset.
  5. Prepare names. Two or three two-part pairs per character, checked against the filter rules.
  6. Reserve now if you are eligible. Three characters in total, and the window closes on November 3. Don't leave it to the last evening.
  7. Set your preferred online language. Options, Languages and Social, Preferred Online Language. This one's account-wide with a 24-hour lock after each change, so do it now, not at 1 a.m. on launch night.
  8. Choose class and race. Our best starting class guide helps if you are torn.
  9. Pick two primary professions. Gathering pairs make early money; crafting pays later.
  10. Clear your keybinds and UI. Five minutes now saves twenty minutes in the starting zone.
  11. Sketch your first night. Starting zone, rough stopping point, who you're meeting. Done.
  12. Forget the beta. It shut on October 21 and Blizzard never promised to carry anything over, so yeah, back to level 1 with the rest of us.

What Should You Do in Your First 24 Hours of WoW Forever?

Five adventurers surround one starter-zone boar while a questgiver waits nearby.

Level, gather on the way and spend nothing you don't have to. The first day decides how comfortable your 30s and 40s feel: riding opens at 40, and the gold for that lesson comes from habits you build now, not from a farm later.

Hours 0 to 2: the starting zone

Starting zones will be crowded for the first hours. Quest mobs and named targets get tagged by others and you wait for respawns. Grouping helps: share kills with whoever stands next to you and move on. Learn your two professions at the first trainer you pass, because gathering nodes along the quest path pay for themselves within the hour. Skyborne players begin on Zephras Isle (levels 1 to 12), away from the main crowd.

Hours 2 to 8: first dungeons

You won't wait long for your first dungeon. Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns and Deadmines all take you at 10. Forever's two fresh low-level ones aren't far behind: Alliance players get Hall of Thanes, Horde gets Ruins of Lordaeron, both roughly at that level. Oh, and talk to every quest giver near the entrance first. Honestly, half the reason to run a dungeon early is the turn-ins. One clear also drops gear that lasts you several levels.

Hours 8 to 24: build the purse

Sell gathered materials in small batches and keep spendable gold for training. Supply crates for the new trading companies start appearing in the world while you quest; they pay Merchant's Favor, not gold, so treat them as a side project. Our WoW Forever leveling guide carries the route on from here, zone by zone.

Prefer to skip the grind and play the endgame with your friends? A WoW Forever powerleveling order can be placed now, and work starts on launch day.

Level Milestones to Plan Around

Some levels are just numbers. These ones change your evening, so keep them in mind when you decide where to stop and what to save for.

LevelWhat opens
10First dungeons: Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns, The Deadmines
About 30The Drowned City and other mid-level dungeons come into range
25Your first character to 25 opens the account's Legacy panel
40Riding lesson with a mount included, plus dual specialization
60Epic riding, the level cap, then raids from December 9

The level 40 stop is the expensive one: riding and dual spec arrive together, and both want gold. Players who save through their 30s get there ready. If you would rather start with a buffer, our WoW Forever gold section opens for orders on launch day.

What Does Not Open on Launch Day?

Raids, Hardcore and arenas are not part of November 4. The three raids, The Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair, open on December 9. Hardcore arrives later in the winter as a separate ruleset, and arenas have not been announced at all.

The rest is there from the first minute: the full original world, four new zones, more than 1,000 new quests and every dungeon up to level 60, as soon as your character reaches the entry level. There are no seasons that reset characters, and the cap stays at 60 for good. What you build in week one stays yours.

That last point matters for planning. With nothing wiping later, there is no reason to rush every system in the first days. Level at the speed you enjoy, reserve the names you care about and leave the rest for when it opens.

wow forever launch checklist FAQ

What time does WoW Forever launch?

3 p.m. PST on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, for everyone at once. Converted: 6 p.m. if you're on US Eastern time, 11 p.m. in London, and the stroke of midnight in Paris or Berlin, so it's already Thursday the 5th there. Over in Seoul, you'd be logging in over breakfast, 8 a.m. on the 5th.

When does WoW Forever name reservation end?

On November 3. It opened on Tuesday, October 27 in Europe and the Americas and a day later in Korea and Taiwan. Blizzard hasn't given an exact closing hour, so don't leave it to the last evening. You get three characters in total, and that cap covers every ruleset combined, not three each.

Who can reserve names early in WoW Forever?

Players who pre-purchased the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection. The benefit belongs to the account the purchase was made for. Without one of these, you create characters at launch like everybody else, with the same name rules and the same rulesets.

Do WoW Forever names have to be unique per server?

Trick question, kind of: Forever has no server list at all. You get a first name and a surname, and only the complete pair needs to be free across your region, EU or US. So that short favourite name you love? Still very possible, just bolt a decent surname on and you're fine.

Do beta characters carry over to WoW Forever?

Nope. Beta wrapped up October 21, and Blizzard never said anything would come across, characters or progress. What you keep is knowledge: the routes you ran, which profession pairs felt good, where you died stupidly. That's worth plenty. The level 28 hunter, sadly, isn't coming with you.

Is WoW Forever included in my subscription?

Yes. Access comes with a regular World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, without a separate purchase. The Heroic Pack, Epic Pack and Collection add extras such as Skyborne and early name reservation, but you don't need them to play the game itself.
