Late in September 2026, Wowhead reported a curious find in the Riverglades, one of the new WoW Forever zones: a goblin standing beside an empty fighting cage who tells visitors the place isn't open yet. That one line of dialogue has revived the oldest PvP question around Classic Plus, namely whether WoW Forever arenas are on the way. Short answer: nothing is announced, the developers have said rated PvP is not planned, and the NPC could just as easily be setting up a quest. Below we sort the evidence into what was seen, what people guess and what Blizzard has actually stated.
Meet Jazzle Cheapshot, the goblin with the empty cage
You'll reach the Riverglades somewhere in your mid-30s; it's next door to Redridge and runs up to about level 45. Head for Powderfuse Port, the neutral goblin harbor there, and look for the NPC that dataminers spotted first. His name is Jazzle Cheapshot, he stands next to a small caged ring, and his dialogue ends with a promise to welcome you once he gets the place up and running.
A cage like this is not new to Azeroth. Gadgetzan in Tanaris has a very similar one, and during Season of Discovery it was the stage for a Warrior rune quest. So the prop alone proves little. What caught attention is the wording: an NPC who says "come back later" usually means something is supposed to happen there at some point.

Two theories: an arena queue or a fight club quest
Most of the discussion splits into two camps.
- Arena queue NPC. Maybe the cage is just set dressing and Jazzle is the guy you'd chat with to get into a match. Goblins handling arena sign-ups? Old habit. Back in The Burning Crusade, you queued with goblins standing in the capitals and in Gadgetzan.
- A Ring of Blood style chain. Burning Crusade veterans will remember the Ring of Blood in Nagrand, a six-quest series run by a goblin called Gurgthock, in which you fought a string of champions in a pit, ending with Mogor, who comes back to life once you beat him. A similar gauntlet in Powderfuse Port would explain both the cage and the "not yet" line.

There is a third, duller option too: the dialogue may just be placeholder text in an unfinished zone. Pre-release builds are full of NPCs that say very little because their content is still being written.
What Blizzard has confirmed about PvP in WoW Forever
This is where the hype meets the record. Here is how the pieces line up:
| Status | What we know |
|---|---|
| Confirmed by developers | No rated PvP is planned. The honor system has been rebuilt around a seasonal honor track with its own rewards that resets with each content tier, in step with raid releases. |
| Confirmed by Blizzard | Classic battlegrounds return, a new 15v15 battleground called Darkspear Islands joins them, and the roadmap lists PvP refreshes for spring and summer 2027. |
| Seen in a pre-release build | Jazzle Cheapshot, his cage and his "come back later" line in Powderfuse Port. Any of it can change before launch. |
| Speculation | That the NPC will become an arena queue, or that the cage will host a quest chain. |
| Not announced | Arenas of any kind, arena brackets, arena gear or arena currency. |
One nuance is worth spelling out. "No rated PvP" rules out ladders and rating-locked rewards, but it does not, by itself, rule out unrated arena matches. TBC had those as well and called them skirmishes. We are not saying Blizzard plans them; it is simply the narrow gap through which arenas could still appear without contradicting what the team said.
How TBC brought arenas to WoW
Arenas came in with the first expansion, and honestly, they changed WoW PvP for good. Patch 2.0.1 went out in December 2006, weeks before the expansion itself, and that's where teams of two, three or five first became a thing. NA players got their first season on January 30, 2007, a couple of weeks after launch day. Three little maps hosted every fight: a ring in Nagrand, a circle in Blade's Edge, and what was left of Lordaeron. The best teams that season earned the Gladiator title, a full Gladiator armor set and the Swift Nether Drake.

And before 2.0.1? For most of us, "arena" meant Gurubashi in Stranglethorn, a messy free-for-all pit. Nobody queued, nobody kept score. That contrast matters for WoW Forever. A Gurubashi-like open ring fits the Classic spirit far better than a ladder, and a small goblin cage in a neutral port sounds closer to that model than to an esports bracket.
What arenas would change in WoW Forever
Even unrated small-group fights would ripple through the game:
- Class balance. Vanilla-style classes were built with raids and big battlegrounds in mind. Put two of them against two others and every stun chain, every missing kick, gets ugly fast. The fresh pairings (think Forsaken Paladin or Orc Mage) would get picked apart.
- The honor track. Arenas would offer a quick, repeatable honor source next to battlegrounds. Because the track resets each tier, Blizzard would have to decide how much a short arena match is worth compared with a long Alterac Valley game.
- Gear. TBC answered burst damage in arenas with resilience. WoW Forever has not shown any PvP-only stat, so arenas would push the team to decide whether PvP and raid gear stay shared.

What to watch for in the beta notes
The beta runs until October 21, ahead of the November 4 launch. If arenas are coming, the signs would likely show up in this order:
- New dialogue for Jazzle Cheapshot, or a gossip option to sign up for something.
- An arena tab or skirmish option in the PvP window.
- Team charter items, arena-only rewards or a separate PvP currency on vendors.
- A line about arenas in the official development notes, which Blizzard updates on a regular basis during the test.
We will update this article if any of these appear. Until then, Powderfuse Port remains a goblin cage with a sign that reads "closed".
What it means for players right now
Plan around the PvP that is confirmed: battlegrounds, the seasonal honor track and the classic rank ladder. Our WoW Forever PvP services cover honor, ranks and PvP gear for launch, and the rest of what we offer for November 4 sits in the WoW Forever boosting catalog.
For players hoping for small-team fights, our WoW Forever arena boost page is already open for sign-ups: leave your email there and we will tell you the moment orders open, should Blizzard ever switch the lights on in that ring. If a rated ladder follows, the WoW Forever Gladiator boost will cover the top title, with its own waitlist.
Frequently asked questions
Are arenas coming to WoW Forever?
Not as far as anyone knows. The dev team told players there won't be rated PvP, and you won't find arenas anywhere on the roadmap. Sure, a goblin standing by an empty cage in the Riverglades says to come back later. That might mean a quest, or it might mean nothing at all yet.
Who is Jazzle Cheapshot in WoW Forever?
Jazzle Cheapshot is a goblin NPC in Powderfuse Port, the neutral harbor of the new Riverglades zone. He stands next to a small fighting cage and asks players to return once his venue is running. Wowhead reported him in late September 2026, and his role is still unknown.
Will WoW Forever have rated PvP?
No rated PvP is planned, according to the developers. Instead, the honor system uses a seasonal track with unique rewards that resets with each content tier, alongside classic battlegrounds and the new 15v15 Darkspear Islands. Blizzard's roadmap also mentions PvP updates in spring and in summer 2027.
When were arenas added to World of Warcraft?
December 2006 is the date to remember: that's when patch 2.0.1 got TBC rolling and let players build teams of two, three or five. The first season opened in North America on January 30, 2007, and matches took place in Nagrand, Blade's Edge Mountains or the Ruins of Lordaeron.
What PvP can I play in WoW Forever at launch?
At launch you can expect classic battlegrounds, world PvP on PvP rulesets, duels, the seasonal honor track and the classic rank ladder. Blizzard has also announced the new Darkspear Islands battleground. More PvP content is planned for the spring and summer 2027 updates.
